Welcome to Capital Workplace Investigations, Culturally Appropriate Workplace Relations. We help you troubleshoot your human resource and industrial relations issues so you can concentrate on your core business.

Jo and Craig are highly qualified, experienced and acknowledged experts in workplace investigations, governance and training. We are able to provide services in all facets of workplace misconduct, policy and governance to all industries.

We are a Supply Nation certified Indigenous supplier. Supply Nation (supported by IBA and DEEWR) define an an Indigenous business as one that is at least 51 per cent owned by Indigenous Australians and the principal executive officer is an Indigenous Australian and the key decisions in the business are made by Indigenous Australians. 

Jo Kāmira (FAIM) has 30 years experience in investigations with expertise in workplace misconduct and diversity issues. This, coupled with her investigative background means she is a leading workplace investigator for complex and sensitive matters. As a Principal of Capital Workplace Investigations, Jo fully understands the practical and commercial realities facing employers when workplace grievances and complaints arise. These are key considerations when she plans and conducts workplace investigations or management inquiries.

Jo has managed and conducted hundreds of investigations and management inquiries for Commonwealth and State government, not for profit and private sector clients in matters concerning a wide range of workplace misconduct.  Jo combines her practical knowledge of contemporary workplace investigation principles and laws, particularly those relating to procedural fairness, and key workplace policies concerning misconduct with her specialist investigative and analytical skills, to develop and provide services aimed at helping clients investigate and manage workplace issues efficiently, expeditiously and fairly.

Jo has worked as a law enforcement educator (Head of Intelligence Training for the AFP, National Strategic Intelligence Coordinator and lecturer at CSU Centre for Investigative Studies and Crime Reduction) and consultant specialising intelligence, investigations, human resource management and training. Jo also taught at Canberra University.

 

Jo is the co-author of ‘Procedural Fairness – A Practical Guide for Workplace Investigators’. She has also given numerous papers at law and investigations conferences on workplace investigations.

Craig Sams (MAHRI) is a proud Wodiwodi member of the Dharawal Nation. Craig has over 30 years of working with Aboriginal and Torres Islander strategies, policies and organisations within the Commonwealth and State government, community, not for profit and private sector.  

Craig had an impressive career as a Detective/Federal Agent for the Australian Federal Police where he gained expertise in fraud and intelligence analysis. Whilst in the AFP, Craig was an Inaugural member of the Mulanggang Indigenous Unit assisting in implimenting the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. He was one of the AFP’s first Aboriginal Detective and Federal Agent. After leaving the AFP, Craig undertook further tertiary studies in Cultural Heritage Management and was awarded a scholarship to study in the UK.

After returning to Australia, Craig won the Indigenous Graduate position at Ausaid (DFAT) and then moved to the Indigenous services sector where he not only honed his policy advice skills but also continued high level investigative work as an investigator and fraud corruption prevention officer with ATSIC/ATSIS where he traveled to communities around Australia educating and advising on governance issues. He was asked by the inaugural Board of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre to become the Director. 

Craig also has a tertiary teaching background having lectured in Indigenous Australian Studies at Macquarie University, the University of Canberra, ANU and Charles Sturt University. He was the Subject Coordinator for the subject Aboriginal Australia at the University of Canberra, taught Aboriginal Awareness at ANU and Aboriginal Issues in Policing at CSU. He has developed and taught courses for the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre, Canberra Institute of Technology and Canberra Institute of Technology Solutions.

Craig has developed and delivered Presentation Training Skills, Powerpoint Training and Using Multimedia in Presentations to government departments. He also develops and delivers Certificate IV Investigations, Fraud Awareness Training, Code of Conduct Training, HR/IR for Managers, Governance Training and Cultural Awareness/Safety and Diversity Training and Critical Incident and De-escalation Strategies.

Craig has considerable experience in managing and reviewing complex and sensitive employment issues including racism, fraud, misuse of resources and bullying and harassment (including sexual harassment) as well as criminal matters. Craig is also an Appeal Chair for the ACT Government auditing and reviewing investigations.

Craig has been a member of numerous boards, including the Inaugural Chair of the Aboriginal Justice Centre in the ACT and the Police Consultative Board. Craig is passionate about social justice. He was a former member of PFLAG Canberra and Region (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and was the former President and current board member of SPARKle – Supporting Parents and Rainbow Kids.
